Our historic buildingThe landmark water tank above the club was constructed in the 1800s to provide water for the steam ships that traveled up the creek to service the downtown port, since paved over, which was then the heart of the city. Ships carried Redwood City lumber from this port to build and then rebuild the cit of San Francisco. The tank, and the building below it represent the last vestige of this rich maritime history.
The Peninsula Yacht club moved into the raw building beneath the tank in 1980, expanding and improving it over the years, and turning into a gathering place for sailors and land lubbers to celebrate, congregate and contribute to the well being of the Redwood Creek. It has also become a community center for Docktown, hosting weddings, baby showers, and funerals along with our great parties, Friday Night dinners, yoga classes, drum circle, staging center for sailing expeditions, pool tournaments, movie nights, and community meetings.
Please help us save our Yacht Club building.
